For many of us, technology is exciting and terrifying all at the same time. Whether you are just starting out, or have been in your law practice for a long time you have to make a lot of decisions about technology.
There are a lot of decisions you will have to make and it can get a little overwhelming. It’s not always straightforward. Don’t feel like you need everything all at once.
Here are a few simple guidelines for you to follow.
1-Keep it simple. Don’t get distracted by bells, whistles, and what the competition is doing.
Ask yourself a couple of simple questions: Do I really need it? Will it enhance my law firm?
2-Get Easy and Practical Law Practice Management Software. Make sure it’s customizable for your practice, easy to use by everyone on your team, and integrates easily with your other software.
Ask colleagues what they use, and what they like or dislike about it.

3-Scheduling Apps. Getting clients to schedule a time to see you makes it easy for you amd them to schedule and reschedule if necessary. They’re easy to use, and are not as costly as you may think. Many of them do more than just put a date and time on an electronic calendar. With some apps, you can add forms for clients to fill out ahead of time!
“Scheduling Apps are the greatest thing since sliced bread!”
4-Legal Research Tools. You know what I’m talking about: Westlaw, Lexis, Fastcase, Casetext, and others I’m sure I’ve forgotten about.
Ask around. Get the pros and cons from colleagues. Just make sure the tool you choose meets the needs of your law firm and your budget.
5-Video Conferencing. Since 2020, video conferencing has reached heights we probably never thought possible. Research what type of video conferencing software works for you. Research the peripheral equipment that works best for your computer (camera and microphone)
There is so much more technology you can and will use. Listen for more details!
